Facebook just announced that it will acquire WhatsApp, worlds popular smartphone messaging application for $19 billion. Facebook also mentioned, that WhatsApp will be an independent app after its acquisition. WhatsApp is one constantly growing cross platform mobile messaging company and $19 billion is one huge acquisition after HP bought Compaq for $25 billion in 2001. WhatsApp is the best real time messaging app.

Over 450 million mobile users are using WhatsApp every month and 70% are mostly active in a day. Messaging volume is approaching the entire global telecom SMS volume and its getting 1 million new users registered every day.

Facebook has recently updated its Messenger App for Android and iPhone users to attract more smartphone users to use it for messaging purpose. Still, people who have facebook account and use it in their smartphone also have WhatsApp installed. Not all the whatsapp account holders have facebook account and people prefer WhatsApp over Facebook Messenger mainly for its user interface and super fast messaging even in slow speed internet connectivity.

Facebook and WhatsApp acquisition has filled this gap. Lets hope there will be no huge changes to our favorite messaging app. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.
