Android mobile phones are targeted once again by hackers with a fresh, new Stragefright Exploit attack (CVE-201503864) and it affects 275 million android mobiles world wide. Android mobile phones running android os versions 2.2 and up to 5.0, 5.1 are vulnerable to this real time hacking attack.
The moment you click on a website link sent by an attacker to your Email or via SMS message, in 2 seconds or a minute your android mobile hacked successfully by the hacker. It is super easy and good for targeted attacks as it requires some slight modifications to the source code to match your android mobile phone model.
Android hacking code tested here, worked very well on Nexus 5 smartphone with stock operating system running. Also works on HTC One, LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 after making some changes to the code.
Security firm northbit provided a video demonstration of Android Hacking in Realtime using this new stragefright exploit attack, as you can see in the above video. Northbit Security firm also published a detailed analysis and report which you can read here at exploit-db.
This newly found attack is possible on all android phones running Android OS v2.2 and up to v 5.1. However, this stragefright exploit failed to work on Android 6.0 marshmallow, hence users who got android 6.0 update to their mobile phones and newly bought android phones with marshmallow running are safe from this attack.
As you can see in the above video, the attack takes less than few seconds to start connecting to the attackers server as the victim visited specially crafted web page with the exploit code in it. Without the need for installing spy apps on android, the website starts to capture data and starts to spy android mobile. It is also possible for the attacker to send commands from their terminal to perform any specific action they want to perform. This puts all your data stored in android phone storage and memory card at risk being exposed without your knowledge.
Alert your friends using android mobile about this new android hacking exploit and warn them to not click on any suspicious website links they receive in email or sms messages. Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment your queries below. Have a great day.
