The reason Dell is against VLC is mainly because of the Volume Boost offered by VLC. It can boost upto 400% of volume as you know and that results in Damage of Laptop speakers. I know a friend of mine got a replacement some months ago for the same problem, but it seems like Dell recently changed their policy and warns the users to not install VLC Media Player in their Laptop and they cannot claim warranty for speakers if VLC installed and you got speaker problems.

When VLC as a free media player software for Windows can put the user laptop warranty in trouble, then it is really sad and users should find some media player alternative that supports most of the video file formats.

May be you should uninstall VLC media player from your Dell Laptop before calling the dell support for service 😉
