Google Chrome is one of the popular web browser software used by millions of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users world wide. Oh, also by Google Chromebook users 🙂 Chrome team has come up with a Chrome Extension that has one job to do, which is Saving your Internet Bandwidth. Download Google Chrome’s Data Saver extension from Chrome Web Store and start saving Internet Bandwidth when you browse websites.
Chrome’s Data Saver is currently in beta and supports HTTP websites at present and not HTTPS connections. Google is expect when it comes to compressing the web pages and this extension performs a compression on the websites you visit and serves them faster.
Google has also published the list of No’s in the help page to know what are the type of webpages that are affected while using Data Saver extension on your chrome browser.
- Image Compression makes some images look a little fuzzy.
- If your computer is connected to Intranet (organization, corporates network) then Intranet sites may not work due to proxy change by data saver extension.
- Billing websites and other banking websites may not work or load properly while using this extension.
- Websites cannot detect your location accurately due to proxy usage.
Google also brings data saver extension to iOS Chrome Browser and Android Chrome Browser. The tutorial to use that feature located under Chrome Browser’s Settings on your iOS, Android and Chromebooks are given at Data Saver Help page.
You can also enable Google’s Safe Browsing Technology to protect your computer from malware and phishing attacks.
