Facebook has launched End-to-End Encrypted, Secret Conversation feature to a very limited number of users before rolling out to all users as a testing purpose. Just like Telegram App, you will be able to start an End to End Encrypted “Secret Conversation” with your friend or family member by tapping on their name inside Facebook Messenger App. You can set a time limit as a duration for this chat session to be automatically self destructed once you tap on the Secret Conversation button.
Facebook says, that every single Secret Conversation selected will use a secure protocol (Signal Protocol by open Whisper Systems) and will use a separate secure servers. There is no way facebook and its employees can access the chat messages that are sent using Secret Conversation option.
Facebook Messenger Secret Conversation
Currently, facebook supports only the texts to be shared via Secret Conversation option and users are not allowed to share Images, Smileys or access Camera feature. May be once its officially rolled out to all the users, facebook may enable those features.
Though it looks promising for a highly encrypted chat communication and better privacy, i feel its too much privacy and may be very much useful for terrorism related communication. Let’s see how its welcomed among other countries and governments once its officially rolled out.
