Google Chrome OS Hacking Contest, total Prize Money $2.7 million

    Google has announced Chrome OS Hacking contest also a big bounty for hackers who participate in this competition. Google will be offering 2.7 million dollars in total to reward security researchers who manage to hack Chrome OS. This is the fourth edition of pwnium competition announced by google inc.

    They also revealed more details about the prize money split up.

    • $110,000 for browser or system level compromise in Guest mode or as Logged in user via Web Page.
    • $150,000 for compromise with the device persistence guest to guest with interim reboot delivered via web page.

    Google also planned to give some extra bonuses for demonstrating an impressive or surprising exploit. Examples: defeating kASLR, exploiting memory corruption in the 64 bit browser process or exploiting the kernel directly from a renderer process. This year 2014, you can choose between ARM based chromebook or the Acer C720 Chromebook which is based on Intel Haswell micro architecture. In 2013, Google made it as Intel based Chrome OS devices only to win cash prizes.

    This time more chances to win the prize money. Security Researchers who participate should submit the complete details about the exploit after succeeded to become eligible.
