Apple recently patched the popular iOS 8.1.3 TaiG Jailbreak and since then, there was no leaks or announcements from hackers team about jailbreak for iOS 8.2 or 8.3 which is the current version running on most of the iPhone’s and iPad’s world wide. Apple has credited TaiG team and fixed the jailbreak possibility in their iOS 8.2 released with tons of other bug fixes and improvements.
Recently apple has rolled out iOS 8.3 with another huge set of bug fixes, features and improvements to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad’s. Twitter user @i0n1c uploaded a video in his youtube channel on April 19th with a preview of iOS 8.3 jailbreak he is currently working on. He also confirms that the exploit he found also works and allowed him to successfully jailbreak iOS 8.4 beta 1 released to Apple Developers only last week.
i0n1c confirms that this is currently a tethered jailbreak and not untethered iOS 8.3 or iOS 8.4 jailbreak, but he as the first stage he is successful with the tethered mode and he is confident to develop it further as there are chances.
The major vulnerability used in here was found right after the SyScan 2015 security conference when I was relaxing in Singapore from several weeks of training and conferences. The vulnerability itself is however not new to iOS. Instead it is inside the code virtually forever. But the code of this jailbreak has nothing at all todo with the previous CyberElevat0r for iOS 7.1.1 – it does not share a single line of code.
I am not showing persistence or an untether at the moment because something is broken with it. But hey this is just a first proof of concept.
Lets hope there is a good news from the hacker to iphone jailbreaking community very soon about the iOS 8.3 untethered jailbreak. As he is working with iOS 8.4 beta 1, he may wait for apple to roll out the iOS 8.4 final version to public and then release the untethered jailbreak which makes lot of sense.
