That’s how ransomware works, but there is no confirmation that the hacker will free up your data once he got the money. He may demand for more and your data will be at risk. Ransomware’s recently became popular among Windows systems, and its new to Mac OS X.

Apple has updated its Gatekeeper security system to fight against KeyRanger Ransomware in OS X. Just make sure you are using apps that are downloaded from App Store and not passes Gatekeeper security system.
