While we already know by common sense that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is poised to be a better smartphone than its predecessor, there is a need to go into the nitty-gritty of the specifications in order to be fully aware of the differences between the two. We offer you an overview of comparisons between the Galaxy S4 and S3 below:

  • Samsung’s intention is not to create the most beautiful smartphone in the world, aesthetically-speaking. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a testament to that statement. Altering only a little the design of the S3, the Galaxy S4 retains the pebble-like feel of the former. It is still made predominantly from plastic and the look seems uninspired. The Galaxy S4 is thinner and lighter than the Galaxy S3, however, with a thinness of a mere 7.9mm and a weight of 130g compared with the S3’s 8.6mm and 133g.
  • The Galaxy S4 boasts of a larger 5” screen as opposed to that of S3’s 4.8” screen. it also comes with higher display resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels) and pixel density (441ppi) than the S3 (720 x 1280 pixels and 306ppi, respectively). The S4 is also capable of recording videos in Full HD with 1080p resolution.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S4’s performance also gets a boost with an Exynos 5 Octa processor as opposed to S3’s 1.4GHz quad-core chip. The S4 also has a larger RAM—2GB—up 1GB from the S3.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S4 also boasts of a better camera than the Galaxy S3. With a 13MP front-facing camera and a 2.1MP rear-facing camera both capable of recording in Full HD 1080p resolution, the S4 allows for a better image and video experience. The S3, by comparison, sports only an 8MP rear-facing and 1.9MP front-facing cameras.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S4 runs with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software, which is more updated than the 4.1.2 version that can be found currently in the S3.
  • Owing to the fact that the S4 has a larger screen resolution, there is a need for a larger battery (2600mAh) that the one the Samsung Galaxy S3 has (2100mAh).
