Facebook – this is the word that’s been echoing anywhere we turn inside this digital world. There’s a funny saying by some engineering students such as,”We would better turn to facebook, rather than facing our books”. So such an impact been prevailed by means of Fbk nowadays. For instance the recent release from hollywood “The social Network” also carries the outline that its been a family of 500 million people round the world in some relation using Facebook. So such a vast dashing social media would be challenged by a new demon. I don’t think so but the hot topic for today is that and its too from the co-founder of Facebook.
JUMO is the one been launched by Chris Hughes co-founder of Facebook.
Jumo is a social network for people who want to change the world.
And today, they launch in public beta. In early 2010 Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, combining his experience with Facebook and his online engagement with the Obama campaign, decided to build a platform that he believed would have the greatest impact on the world.
And some of the words from him…
“Somehow in 2010, despite huge advancements in technology and millions of people ready and willing to help, there is no network to connect people with the issues and organizations they care about.” -Chris Hughes

So the next question will be, Why Jumo?
“We were frustrated by the lack of opportunities to get involved with the issues and organisations we care about. How many times have you read an article or seen that video and wanted to help but just didn’t know how? We know there are millions of people working to improve the lives of others, many of whom don’t have the resources to have the greatest impact. And we know there are millions more who want to help, but don’t know how. Despite huge advancements in connection technologies 500 million people on Facebook, for example it’s difficult to find meaningful opportunities to get involved. We believe we can do better,” says Kristen Titus, Jumo’s Managing Director.
Jumo gets launched today, November 30th, supporting 3,500 charities rounding over 200 issue areas across the world. This site allows the user to make some relevant criteria’s that spark your compassion, whether it’s a remote illiterate village in southern India or a rural boys school in interior Mongolia, this allows the user to spend their time, money, interests, and charity to those by being updated with necessary information.
Individuals can set up user profiles with their interests and preferences much like you would on a job or dating site. It carries everything that’s on facebook and also far beyond that, everything is to make the people think and get forward towards creating pages and making discussions on it.
What is Jumo?
Jumo, a word that means “together in concert” in Yoruba, a West African language. It indirectly states the ability to share your choice of causes with friends and family and connect with other supporters and make a revolutionary in the burning causes. The site works by combining the best aspects of different social networks to connect individuals with various organisations.
In addition to this the most important thing is, Jumo is based in New York City with a small staff of 9 employees, mostly engineers.
So we make a warm welcome to Jumo to rock and roll as a social network. Cheers !!!!
Jumo looks good, but I don’t think it will be able to challenge Facebook now. But with the founder’s experience and deep pocket, perhaps it will be able to have some great success in the future.
As you said i wont have any effect now, But it has a great scope in mere future as it is completely charity focused venture
If I join this network……I would lyk to make web browsing more safer and reliable….
Sure you can, but confirm everything by making a try. Usage and likes differ person to person. Cheers!!!!
will check that social network for sure!
Thank you!!! Cheers!!!
I never heard of this before. Thanks for the info.
Okies 🙂 Well make a try!!!!
Nice idea. Hopefully it’ll gain momentum and really change the world!
It seems like the internet is running out of names. And they are turning towards Africans and Asians in search of names.
Nice social network. But I think no one will not able to defeat facebook!
Good idea,if it really overcomes all the drawbacks of facebook, then i think ,it will work out!
The idea is great to connect people around the world not only share information but also how to help each other.. Right, isn’t
