The iPad mini OLED Display could be one of the biggest upgrades apple bringing this year. Supply chain reports suggest, Samsung has started mass producing OLED panels for upcoming iPad mini. So when is the new iPad mini release date? What other hardware upgrades we can expect?

Samsung OLED Display mass Production Started
Supply chain reports from South Korea confirms that Samsung Display started producing OLED panels for next generation iPad mini in June 2026.
So we can be sure, that apple is gearing up to announce new iPad mini OLED Display model possibly in September 2026 event. As latest rumors and leaks confirm, there will be no iPhone 18 release in September, atleast we will see some good upgrades happening to iPad line up.
Earlier reports suggested that Samsung was testing smaller OLED panels for Apple. The latest information indicates that the display may have now moved beyond the testing stage. Which is good news.
Better Colours and Deeper Blacks
OLED displays control every pixel individually. Allows pixels to completely turn off when you see media contents with darker areas. Subject will pop well on the screen. If you are using iPhone or seen iPad Pro latest models, you know what I am referring to.
iPad mini with OLED Displays could offer deeper blacks, better contrast and richer colours compared to current Liquid Retina Display models. When you watch movies, look at your photos, videos and play games, you will feel that better blacks immediately.
Once you are used to the OLED Display, its tough to go back to LCD Displays. Those gloomy gray backgrounds will make you feel the outdated technology of LCD immediately.
OLED is best in every way when we consume content regularly.
Will the OLED iPad mini Support 120Hz?
There is currently no reliable information confirming that the new iPad mini will support a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. I won’t bet on the 120Hz refresh rate too.
Apple may use a more affordable OLED panel with a standard 60Hz refresh rate to keep the iPad mini separate from the premium iPad Pro lineup. Pricing will be an important factor here. To not increase the pricing too much, apple may sacrifice few things with the OLED Display technology on iPad mini 2026.
Even with a 60Hz refresh rate, moving from LCD to OLED would still be a major improvement in overall display quality.
Slightly Larger Display Is Possible
Good News is, iPad mini could cut more bezels and give more room for your content. Leaks suggest that apple may move from current 8.3 inches display size to 8.5 inches display. So the thinner and lighter iPad mini feels great in hand, at the same time delivers amazing experience when you view content on them.
While getting the work done on the go, iPad mini OLED 2026 model will feel great to hold in your hands.
Expected iPad mini 2026 Release Date
The iPad mini OLED Display could arrive during the second half of 2026 as per leaks and reports. If you were planning to buy iPad mini, now is really bad timing.
Making the iPad mini 2026 Apple Intelligence and New SIRI powered tablet, Apple will also upgrade the RAM, Processor chip and internals. So if you can wait till september, it will be worth it.
Still, some earlier reports suggested that the OLED model may not arrive until 2027. I personally, believe that apple won’t conduct September event without iPhone 18 model and just for iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Fold.
