Hey guys, big news if you’re thinking about the iPhone 18 series. After iPhone Air released last year with C1X modem, upcoming iPhone 18 models will be equipped with C2X modem probably. Apple is finally moving the entire lineup to its own custom modems, and this shift brings more than just better performance and battery life.
There’s a useful privacy upgrade coming that most people haven’t picked up on yet.

According to the latest reports, every iPhone 18 model including the Pro versions and the rumored foldable will use Apple’s in-house modem instead of Qualcomm.
This change has been years in the making, and 2026 is shaping up to be the year it finally happens across the board.

Why This Matters: The Hidden Privacy Perk
Do you remember the Limit Precise Location option that Apple introduced in iOS 26.3?
It stops your carrier from seeing your exact location and only shares a general area instead. Right now, this feature only works on phones with Apple’s own C1 or C1X modem, like the iPhone Air and iPhone 17e models.
If you’re still using a Qualcomm modem on your current iPhone, you won’t even see the toggle.

But once the iPhone 18 Pro switches over, this privacy setting should finally become available on the flagship models too.
I explained the full iOS 26.5 update and this feature in detail earlier. You can read it here: iOS 26.5 New Features and Changes
The good thing is Apple says enabling it won’t hurt your signal strength, call quality, or emergency services. 911 will still get your precise location when it actually matters.
iPhone 17e and iPhone Air: C1X Modem
Apple has been slowly moving away from Qualcomm. The first real steps came with the more affordable iPhone 17 series models that already run on the C1X modem. If you want to see how those early Apple modems perform in daily use, check out this comparison: iPhone 17e vs iPhone 16e

What to Expect from Apple’s Next Modem (C2)
The upcoming C2 modem is expected to fix the remaining gaps. It should bring better real-world 5G speeds, improved efficiency, and hopefully full mmWave support again. This could make the iPhone 18 Pro feel noticeably better for heavy data users.

iPhone 18 models with C2X Modem
Apple taking full control of the modem is a pretty important step. It should deliver better battery life, smoother connectivity, and now this extra privacy control. It’s one of those quiet upgrades that might matter more than we realize in the long run.
Would you actually turn on the “Limit Precise Location” feature once it arrives on the iPhone 18 Pro? Or do you think it’s not worth the hassle? Let me know in the comments. I read every single one.
